(Everyday Radio 365 interview transcription, March 2018)
"To be real...I am family man who has always been blessed to be connected to extremely talented people that have impacted my style, confidence, and overall approach to music in multiple ways.
Who is DJ Silk | The Supreme? I earned the name from the legendary "DJ Chuck Chillout" upon him hearing my coined 'smooth as silk' transitions in passing; this was during my time as a very young mobile street team promotional DJ for WBLS (107.5 FM-NYC) in 2005. Rewind about 6 years or so...I started my DJ journey in middle school while playing basketball for an AAU team coached by "Apollo's Own DJ Jess." Uncle Jessie worked with my mom......and their workplace became an extended village of love and resources for me.......Jess DJ'd all of the office events and parties with his very well-placed style and relatable flair; Jesse's personality is electric...I attribute my mixing style to "Unk," and even still have a few of his mixed CDs in storage. I appreciate the time and wisdom he put in me early on.
Fast Forward about 10 years: I started working for a Special Event Company based in Columbia, Maryland that gave me a shot at DJ'ing Weddings. I worked under the tutelage of legendary Radio Host and Special Event DJ Dan Sandys. Dan helped shape my style and swag in ways that no other DJ has ever done before. He believed in my ability to be successful...and understood my ambitions to not want to be stuck only DJ'ing in bars and night clubs...With this in mind, he bought me my first high-end set of speakers and amplifiers, worked with me on diction daily, taught me to understand event dynamics, and musical programming in ways that I still use today! Dan also introduced me to several other companies of whom I still work with currently.
In an "Dog-Eat-Dog-World," I solute these pioneers and cannot thank them enough for impacting my journey...and believing in me."
